Laura Toggs and the Hillsong team noticed there was a new generation rising that was not afraid to stand for the issues they believed in, and this was a generation that was free. Hillsong United (the original youth band) through the years had been blasted into the atmosphere of popularity, and it was time for a new sound. During the 2013 Hillsong Conference, Hillsong United posted a video of Hillsong Young and Free performing, and the following day, their debut song "Alive" was avaliable to listen to online.
